APPG Sets Course for Next Phase of Regional Delivery

Yesterday we were delighted to reconvene the West Midlands All Party Parliamentary Group, with a strong turnout of Members reflecting the continued energy and commitment behind the region.

It was particularly encouraging to see such a high level of engagement from MPs and stakeholders across a focused and forward looking discussion on the West Midlands’ priorities.

Following a busy start to the year, today’s meeting was an important moment to reset and drive the next phase of delivery.

We were pleased to hear from Cadent Gas Ltd, who shared valuable insight on their investment in the region and the critical role of energy infrastructure in supporting growth and long term resilience.

Across the discussion, there was clear momentum behind a set of shared priorities. The Infrastructure workstream will take forward work on road, rail and energy, including the M54 to M6 link road, improved rail connectivity, and urban retrofit opportunities.

Alongside this, discussions on Growth highlighted the need to tackle barriers such as planning delays, local authority capacity and regulation, while strengthening coordination to unlock investment.

The Education, Skills and Culture workstreams also reported strong progress, with a continued focus on reducing NEET outcomes and delivering on the recommendations of the Culture Inquiry.

Today’s meeting underlined the APPG’s role as a convening force for Parliament and partners, bringing together the people and ideas needed to drive long term growth in the West Midlands.

We look forward to continuing this momentum over the coming months and to reconvening after the summer recess.
