Our Inquiry into Culture, Place & Liveability

The All-Party Parliamentary Group for the West Midlands has published its final report following its Culture Inquiry, bringing together policymakers, cultural leaders, local authorities, and community organisations to shape the future of culture across the region. The APPG thanks everyone who contributed to the inquiry during the call for evidence, including arts organisations, educational institutions, creative practitioners, and local stakeholders whose insights were invaluable.

The report sets out a series of recommendations to ensure culture is fully recognised as a driver of economic growth, regeneration, and social cohesion across the West Midlands. The region’s cultural and creative sectors are central to its identity and prosperity, supporting jobs, attracting investment, and strengthening communities.

Despite the West Midlands’ rich cultural heritage and internationally recognised creative industries, the inquiry found that the sector faces ongoing challenges including uneven investment, workforce development pressures, and the need for stronger regional coordination. Targeted policy interventions and sustained investment will be essential to unlock the full potential of culture across the region.

The report highlights the vital contribution of culture to wider regional priorities including place-making, tourism, skills development and inclusive economic growth, and concludes with clear recommendations to support a thriving and resilient cultural sector across the West Midlands.
